Biography
Theresa began her Rolfing journey in 1998 as a high school-aged client with sports injuries, headaches and sinus problems. Not understanding the full potential of Rolfing, she was thrilled that Rolfing kept her sinus problems away and allowed her to continue competing in sports. No longer plagued by headaches, Theresa was intrigued with the work and it’s impact on her sports performance and spatial awareness, as well as her sense of well-being.
Theresa went on to college, earning degrees in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology. She spent several years training professional athletes and rehabilitating cancer/stroke patients. Her love for kinesiology and anatomy probed a quest for further understanding of how the human body works and heals.
Deep inside, she knew she would someday return to rolfing. Theresa made the leap to Boulder, to pursue training in structural integration. She enrolled at the well-known and highly regarded Rolf Institute for Structural Integration, founded by Ida Rolf. After a selective application process, the intense and rigorous curriculum provided by RISI helped Theresa prepare for a healthy practice on both academic and physical levels. The Rolf Institute requires extensive and on going continuing education each year. Theresa has completed certifications in (to name just a few) CranioSacral Therapy, SourcePoint Therapy, visceral manipulation, nerve mobilization, spinal biomechanics and scar tissue therapy.
Since completing her training, Theresa has helped hundreds of dancers, college athletes, professional athletes, professional body builders, housewives, business professionals and students move with more ease and better their posture. She has helped reduce the risk for repetitive stress injuries and has also helped return employees to work faster and in healthier condition. From car accidents and work related injuries, to sports injuries and stress overload, Theresa can help your body restore balance and harmony while helping the body to heal and recover.
Theresa also shares her knowledge of the human body with students. She is part of the faculty at Zardus School of Massage, teaching all foundational science classes such as anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and pathology, as well as teaching craniosacral and therapeutic massage classes.
Theresa has had the joy of building a solid practice here in Maine. She offers 2 unique offices in Gardiner and Auburn and works closely with massage therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, general surgeons, acupuncturists and reiki practitioners. She enjoys stained glass, photography and keeping active. She lives in Gardiner with her husband and two children.
